First off we would like to thank you for the opportunity! Shout out SuperDope Nation for being superdope to all us indie artist out here grindin to reach the next level.
Tell us a little about yourself and your background
We go by G-Rieduz, the G stands for Grindin. The group members are V-Nell and Skitta-Skat, we are actual brothers, V-Nell being the oldest. In the words of OKC basketball MVP Kevin Durant:
“We are from a small county called Prince George’s County outside of Washington DC.”
We moved all around the county but we really consider Capitol Heights and Suitland home. We got into music at an early age but we came into doing music at different times,
I (V-Nell) started at age 13 or 14 rapping with a cousin forming the group G-Rieduz. Back then we were rapping and free-styling with our friends in school.
I (Skitta-Skat) started at age 10. Watching my brother and cousin doing their thing, I was in the background mimicking, getting hyped when they would complete writing a song then rap it. When they decided to go separate ways everyone looked at me to see if I could fill them shoes and when it came time to deliver, I made them believe! We took it to the road performing in cities such as Atlanta for the sweet auburn festival, New York at the Apollo, Cotton Club and Sugar Shack, Los Angeles at music conferences and even having the chance to perform London.
Who was some of your musical influences coming up?
Our musical influences would be ourselves, one another. We push each other to do better and when it comes time to deliver, it makes us want to be even better. As far as other musical influences, we would say
“Every artist who has came in the game and added their own original unique style. Not just hip-hop artist, R&B as well.”
So basically we know who is considered to be top 5 or top 10 in hip-hop, It’s those game changers. There’s artist who you might not consider the top the top on everyone’s list but we like them for what they bring.
How would you describe your style of music? How has it changed over time?
We would describe our style as
“the complete hip-hop artist”.
By that we mean not being limited to one or several things. We’re lyrical, we can make a great record, a great party song, storytelling, and we can make a song that relates to something someone may have went through or is going through in life. Performing is our favorite through it all!
As far as our style changing, nothing stays the same. We would say over the years we’ve gotten better at the things we mentioned. We’ve evolved!
Describe what your process is like for making music? Do you have any rituals or specific routine?
Our process on making music should be the same as every musical artist in the world. You know, sit down and really focus on making everything you create the best or better then the last song you created. We sit down listen to the beat and see what kind of emotion it gives us.
“I(Skitta-Skat) would say I like to write a home, I feel that’s where all the emotions come out.”
How would you describe your studio vibes?
Our studio vibes are just go in very focused on making the best songs, laugh a little, but really just focused on the songs being at 100%.
What are your thoughts on the current state of hip-hop music today?
We feel the current state of hip-hop is in a good place, you have artist like J.Cole, Future, Drake and etc. DMV hip-hop scene is good, a good amount of talented artist are getting their due but we feel the hip-hop state would be in a better place once G-Rieduz get on!
What’s the hardest challenge of being an artist in today’s era?
The hardest challenge of being an artist is the decline of actual album selling!
Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s record sells were at an all time high but you we have streaming, downloading for free. Also the attention span of the listeners, its like if you not flooding them with music or touring then you can be forgotten about in a couple weeks.
What music are you listening to these days? Any artist that you think is SuperDope?
We mainly listen a lot of past music
I(Skitta-Skat) thought J.Cole Forest Hill Drive Live album was pretty dope.
If you could work with any artist you wanted, who would be your dream collaboration?
We are open to work with anyone but if we had to choose it would probably be Lil Wayne, J.Cole or Chris Brown.
What can people expect next from you?
People can expect new music in the near future, we are currently recording new music now so be ready for G-RIEDUZ cause we coming for the top and nothing less.
