Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

We’re a music group from D.C. known as The Metro Cartel. Our collective cononlsists of five members; Ivin the Terrorable, B.I.G. Fella, Duck Lo, Sir Charlz, & M.I.L. (Moments In Life). Individually we’re all from different parts of the District. We’re just trying to push forward with consistent moves/efforts to build our brand and online presence.

“Our music is socially conscious for the most part and we make it our priority to touch all bases whether it’s human emotions, to uplift or provoke thoughts of the listener. Identity and individuality remain at the top of our goals, while reflecting on the reality of our environment.”

Who was some of your musical influences coming up?

Some of our musical influences coming up were Biggie, 2Pac, Scarface, Jay Z, Nas, UGK, Outkast, DMX, & Eminem.

How would you describe your style of music? How has it changed over time?

Individually, we have our own style and as a collective it shows our originality and versatile skill. We have tracks that are politically-charged, some that are socially conscious, and ones you can definitely  “Turn Up” to. We have a great ear for production so anything you hear us on, you’re guaranteed to vibe with it.

Describe what your process is like for making music? Do you have any rituals or specific routine?

Our process for making music is staying creative. We don’t really have a specific routine for it. Whoever comes with a concept and/or hook for the track,we pretty much run with it and let our creativity take over.

How would you describe your studio vibes?

The studio vibe depends on the energy we get from the beat or conversation in the session at hand. For the most part it’s always positive and energetic when need be. Our sessions be too real at times,we not record anything and just simply discuss life and music throughout the whole session. That there itself might spark a seven-track EP just for fun.

What are your thoughts on the current state of hip-hop music today?

We feel that the state of Hip Hop is complacent right now in this day & age. There’s definitely room for improvement and enough to do so.

“We believe that’s why we’re here! To help change the culture and push the envelope with our music.”

What’s the hardest challenge of being an artist in today’s era?

The hardest challenge of being an artist today is staying relevant. A lot artists tend to sound the same, so how can the consumer tell? We believe artists should make their own lane and stay consistent with putting out material.

What can people expect next from you

The people can expect more visuals from us and more projects. B.I.G. Fellas will be releasing “Quiet As Kept” EP in the fall. Following that will be M.I.L. “Passions N Life“, Ivin the Terrorable “Ghetto Gospel“,& Sir Charlz “The Vessel“.

How do you come up with most of your lyrics to your songs?

“We create our music based on the atmosphere of the environment. The music reflects our reality so when our creative process begins we’re in a clear and conscious state to compose.”

We vibe out to the instrumental before hand as well and sometimes we come up with concepts then find the right instrumental to put it on.
